The Cline Avenue Interchange on the Indiana Toll Road was opened to the public in 1985. The $25M project involved the design of 7 bridges over the Grand Calumet River, an adjacent railroad and the Indiana Toll Road and extensive ramp and roadway design.

Challenging project features included the following:

  • a major site relocation from the adjacent landfill to the Gary Airport property
  • hazardous materials in the Grand Calumet River
  • severely restricted site geometry
  • maintenance of traffic on the busy Indiana Toll Road throughout construction.
