Lawson-Fisher Associates P.C.
A Safety Conscious Consulting Firm

Lawson-Fisher Associates (LFA) is proud of its commitment to safety with its extensive safety policy and program that reaches beyond the four walls of the firm. Following are the components of the safety program that we participate in:

Our in-house training sessions have become popular with clients, who frequently send their employees to our OSHA 10-Hour Construction Industry Safety & Health, Confined Space Entry and Competent Person in Trenching and Excavating training sessions. Our own Senior Construction Engineer, Robert M. Evans is a certified OSHA instructor responsible for preparing and presenting our training sessions. With his extensive background in the construction field he augments the "book work" with excellent practical knowledge and hands-on experience in all the classes he teaches.

Theresa E. Harrison, LFA's Safety Officer, invites you to take a more detailed look at key components of our safety program.

Comprehensive Company Safety Policy and Manual
LFA has a comprehensive and formal written safety policy, which is maintained, updated and annually reviewed. All LFA personnel have their own copy of this manual and are expected to be familiar with it, as the policy pertains to their own job responsibilities as well as general company functions. For example, topics ranging from personal protective devices for field personnel, training and immunization requirements, to Material Data Sheets for office products are all included in the policy manual.

Annual Safety Policy Review and Update
During the first quarter of every calendar year LFA holds an annual safety review and update meeting; attendance of all LFA field personnel is required. At this time any revisions, improvements or additions to the LFA Safety Program are introduced and discussed and any updated Safety Program Manual pages are distributed. Any changes in OSHA policies are also handled at this time. This is also the time when the annual fire extinguisher inspection is scheduled, for both building and vehicle fire extinguishers.

OSHA 10-Hour Construction Industry Safety and Health
All personnel who are expected to be involved in any field activities are required to complete this training session. Occupational Safety and Health Standards for the Construction Industry (29 CFR Part 1926), promulgated by OSHA, is utilized as the reference text for this training. Some of the key topics include:

All participants who successfully complete the course receive OSHA certification.

Personal Protective Devices and Safety Equipment
In conformance with our safety policy, LFA provides all necessary personal protective devices and safety equipment. Personal protective devices, such as hard hats, safety glasses and safety vests are required to be worn by all personnel during the time they are working in the field.

American Red Cross CPR and First Aid Training
All LFA field personnel are required to maintain current certifications in Adult CPR and First Aid. Training is available at the local chapter of the American Red Cross as well as on site at our offices approximately two times per year for renewing certifications. All training costs are fully covered by LFA to encourage 100% compliance with our safety policy.

Confined Space Entry Training
This specialized training is required for all LFA personnel performing fieldwork that would require entering either a permit or non-permit required confined space, such as manholes, tanks or tunnels for example. Robert M. Evans, Senior Construction Engineer conducts this training, which takes approximately 6.5 hours, and includes a classroom presentation, test and an actual entry using non-entry retrieval equipment.

Competent Person in Trenching and Excavating
In providing Construction Supervision Services our Construction Engineers are required to be knowledgeable about such things as safe trenching and excavating methods, both for their own protection and the overall safety of the project and those affected by it. Again, our own Robert M. Evans provides this 6 hour training course for all LFA personnel who would be exposed to any field work involving trenching or excavating.

Hepatitis B and Tetanus Vaccinations
All LFA Field Personnel, as well as Engineers who periodically are in the field are required to have a current Tetanus vaccination. Anyone who would potentially be considered for any confined space entry is also required to have taken the Hepatitis B (3 shot) vaccination. As with other components of our Safety Program associated costs are covered by LFA to encourage 100% compliance.

Lawson-Fisher Associates takes its Safety Program very seriously, as evidenced by the time and expense devoted to training, and immunizations. As Mr. John E. Fisher, Chairman, says at the beginning of every one of our Safety Program reviews "If it is not safe we are not doing it. All personnel involved in the work need to be 100% comfortable with the procedure we are involved in, or we do not do it."
